Artistic Bio

Aneta Cieplak is a Polish-born, Zurich-based artist whose work explores memory, migration, rural identity and emotional transformation.

Her paintings are rooted in the landscapes and experiences of her early life in Poland, where the rhythm of the countryside, family labour, seasonal rituals and quiet moments of reflection became part of her visual and emotional memory. These memories continue to shape her work — not as literal scenes, but as fragments of feeling, colour, texture and movement.

At the age of eighteen, Aneta left Poland for the United Kingdom, beginning a journey marked by independence, adaptation and reinvention. Years later, now living and working in Switzerland, her paintings reflect the emotional complexity of carrying more than one place within oneself: the place one comes from, the places one has lived, and the inner landscapes formed through change.

Working primarily with acrylic, pastel and mixed media, Aneta creates layered abstract compositions that move between softness and intensity. Her work often returns to themes of childhood, loss, resilience, femininity and transformation. Natural forms — fields, flowers, storms, wings and fragments of landscape — appear not as decoration, but as carriers of memory.

Central to her practice is the tension between fragility and strength. Aneta is interested in how delicate things survive: memories, dreams, identities, relationships, and the versions of ourselves that remain after periods of change.
